About Your Facilitator
Deborah Reidy’s specialty is distilling complex ideas into simple yet powerful tools that enable you to achieve outstanding results.
She has decades of first-hand leadership experience, having worked in government, nonprofit and industry. For 25 years, she’s been a sought-after leadership development coach, consultant and facilitator. Clients include Bose, the National Park Service, Department of Defense agencies, the NIH Clinical Center, Republic Services, Mars Wrigley, and Airbus. She’s also worked extensively with many state agencies and nonprofits.
Deborah’s been certified as a coach for 14 years and has coached hundreds of people from all walks of life. She is a Professional Certified Coach and has numerous other degrees and certifications.
In 2012, she published a book on leadership entitled Why Not Lead and she regularly blogs on leadership topics. In 2020, she launched Grow to Lead.

The Foundation
The goal of Module 1 is to share my vision of Grow to Lead and let you know what you can expect as you progress throughout this site. You’ll have a good idea of how to use the site most effectively. And most importantly, you’ll have a good idea of where you’d like to grow in your leadership by completing the Grow to Lead self-assessment.
Module 2
Setting Powerful Goals & Choosing Your Path
The goal of Module 2 is to share all that I’ve learned about effective goal setting in order to set you up for success. You’ll also be working with the companion worksheet to identify areas for growth and do a deep dive around what success would look like.
Module 3
The Power of a Growth Mindset
Successfully achieving goals is all about learning, and cultivating a Growth Mindset in oneself and others is an essential capacity for learning. The goal of Module 3 is to help you reliably cultivate a Growth Mindset even in the most challenging situations and to use what you learn to bring out a Growth Mindset in others. You’ll also become more aware of the ways organizational culture and practices can promote or discourage a Growth Mindset and what you, as a leader, can do to contribute.
Module 4
The Science of Positivity
An essential task of leadership is being able to balance building a high-performing team while also fostering a positive team culture. Many leaders struggle with that balance, and the result can be poor performance, lack of engagement or both. The goal of Module 4 is to introduce you to a scientifically proven approach to fostering positive team culture that can easily be incorporated into supervision, team meetings, and other team activities that you’re already doing.

Motivational Accountability
Many leaders dread having to hold their people accountable and find that the least enjoyable part of their work. And yet it's a critical part of leadership and contributes not only to getting the work done but also to promoting positive team culture. The goal of Module 5 is to provide you with practical tools that can engage and motivate your people to want to deliver on their commitments.

Leading on Purpose
Communication is the medium of leadership. Effective communication requires clarity about the results you want to achieve, whether it’s a project or a conversation. While achieving that clarity does call for preparation, it needn’t be time-consuming. The goal of Module 6 is to introduce you to a framework for gaining clarity of purpose that will dramatically improve your impact with minimal effort.
Module 7
The Inner Work of Leadership
Your effectiveness and resilience as a leader are directly related to inner qualities such as confidence, comfort with ambiguity, and flexibility. Many leaders find that their inner confidence is not always matched by how they’re perceived by others. This can result in self-doubt, tentativeness, and uneven performance. The goal of Module 7 is to increase your awareness of the obstacles to inner confidence and to develop a game plan for removing them (or at least minimizing their impact.)

Systems Thinking: An Approach for Thinking Strategically
This module focuses on making systems thinking easy to understand, accessible, and directly applicable to organizational life. Systems thinking provides a framework for identifying and addressing the underlying causes of complex problems. A systems thinking approach lends itself to exploring complex issues such as equity, public health, and our current economic crisis. For most complex problems, there are systems in the background that, when seen and understood, suggest leverage for getting desired outcomes. Systems Thinking provides you with powerful tools to help individuals and teams think critically and strategically together.

Having Awkward Conversations with Ease
Many people avoid having conversations they fear will be awkward. This module will help you get clearer about what makes a conversation awkward and why it might be worth tackling anyway. It will also share a proven sequence to prepare for a potentially awkward conversation and give you a chance to practice.
Module 10
Personal Influence for Positive Change
Wouldn't it be great if people would just do what we ask them to do? Whether it's our boss, our co-workers, subordinates or family members, we often find it challenging to achieve the results we want when we have to work through other people. And the reality is that even when we manage others, success isn’t achieved just by telling people what to do. This module will teach you core strategies for exerting personal influence, defined as "making your ideas powerful from another person's point of view."

This will be my third launch of Grow to Lead! The first time I launched in November of 2020 was in the midst of the most significant combination of societal challenges of my lifetime. I was proud that over 20 people wanted to grow their leadership in even the most challenging of times.
